Alique Topalian, PhD, MPH, Research Scientist for Survivorship and Supportive Services at the UC Cancer Center and Family & Community Medicine, UC College of Medicine, will present Building Collaborations in Survivorship Research
Alique Topalian, PhD, MPH, is a Research Scientist in Survivorship and Supportive Services and 2-time cancer survivor. Her experience with childhood cancer inspired her to obtain a Master’s in Public Health and a Ph.D. in Health Promotion and Education, completing her degree in 2020. Alique is involved in many national cancer non-profits, advocacy, and health care organizations to ensure the patient voice is heard. Her primary focus areas include patient experience, oncology primary care, cancer-related cognitive impairment, adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer, survivorship and supportive services.

Jamie Wiener, LPCC-S, Program Director, Cancer Support Community of Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky, will present Utilizing Research to Inform Community Survivorship Programming and Collaborations.
Jamie Wiener, LPCC-S, has been the Program Director for the Cancer Support Community of Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky since June of 2021and has over 13 years of experience providing supportive programs for individuals and families affected by cancer. Jamie is passionate about working to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone and believes strongly in the power of community. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and received her degree from the Family Institute at Northwestern University.

Teresa M. Reyes, PhD, Professor, Pharmacology, Physiology and Neurobiology; Sr. Assoc. Dean for Basic and Translational Research, UC College of Medicine, will present Optimizing Animal Models to Advance Survivorship Care.
Research in the Reyes lab examines how early life environment shapes brain development and cognition. Her work examines a range of environmental influences, including nutrition as well as exposure to inflammation, drugs of abuse or chemotherapeutic medications. Currently, the lab is using a translationally-relevant mouse model of childhood leukemia survival to understand long term cognitive deficits in leukemia survivors.

Rhonna Shatz, DO, Adj. Professor, Division Director for Behavioral Neurology and Medical Director of the UC Memory Care and Brain Health Center, will present The Brain in Cancer: Creating a Cross- Disciplinary Clinical Research Program.
Rhonna Shatz, DO is a behavioral neurologist and medical director of the Memory Care and Brain Health Clinic and Cognitive Cancer Clinic at the University of Cincinnati. She holds the Bob and Sandy Heimann Chair in Alzheimer’s Disease Research and Education and is a member of the National Cancer Institute Cancer-related Cognitive Impairment (CRCI) CRCI-cognitive science network. For over 30 years, her passion has been the creation of brain wellness and flourishing, dementia prevention, and multi-disciplinary systems for supporting individuals who experience cognitive impairment from cancer or neurodegenerative disease. Her current research centers on the role of sleep and inflammation in CRCI, the overlap of genetic and lifestyle factors common to CRCI and neurodegenerative disease, the role of musical awe in memory, and a Learning Healthcare Systems approach to CRCI.
