BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS

ABOUT THE BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS CORE

The Biomedical Informatics (BMI) core is an integral part of the CCTST and serves as the hub of research informatics activity for the University of Cincinnati’s Academic Health Center. The core is supported by the Division of Biomedical Informatics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the Department of Biomedical Informatics within UC's College of Medicine

Biomedical informatics is an interdisciplinary field seeking to study and advance the effective use of biomedical data for scientific inquiry, problem solving, and decision making, motivated by efforts to improve human health. As an avalanche of data and an increased sophistication of technology change the way biomedical research is conducted, the discipline of biomedical informatics has become an integral component of clinical and translational research for the health care infrastructure. Biomedical informatics can be used by clinicians, scientists, researchers, educators and other professionals whose primary job function is to connect people with information and technology.

Modern Doctors

Our BMI core partners seek to:

  • Enable the UC Academic Health Center to make better use of biomedical data and technology for new discoveries, innovative science and improved healthcare.

  • Develop and implement highly transformational approaches to better understand diseases and positively impact patient outcomes.

  • Facilitate collaborations and data sharing among participating institutions in Cincinnati and worldwide.

  • Educate the next generation of biomedical data scientists through several biomedical and health informatics educational programs within the UC Academic Health Center, including:
