SEPTEMBER 15, 2022 - SPOTLIGHT ON Kristin Burgoyne, RefugeeConnect

Kristin Burgoyne, MSSW, Executive Director, Refugee Connect. RefugeeConnect’s Expanding Health Navigator Program - Since presenting to TCN in 2021 about their Community Navigator program, RefugeeConnect has received several large grants from Impact 100 and bi3 to grow their program. In July, they were awarded a 3-year grant from bi3* to launch a Refugee Health Navigator program. Their newly expanded team will be connecting with families to assist and support them as they learn how to navigate the US Healthcare System and health-related benefits and resources. In addition, they will be working with their partners at CCHMC to create multilingual health literacy content to share with the community and will offer free training and consultation to healthcare partners around culturally responsive practices. *In response to the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment, bi3, a philanthropic initiative to transform health for all people in Greater Cincinnati, awarded $4.7 million in grants to seven area nonprofit organizations to address health disparities in maternal and infant health and behavioral health and remove social barriers to better health outcomes.

MAY 13, 2021 - PRESENTATION - Ericson Imarenezor, HEALTH COLLABORATIVE

Ericson Imarenezor, from The Health Collaborative, will discuss The Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). The CHNA is a recurring requirement (every 3 years) for all not-for-profit hospitals and local health departments to identify the top health needs of the communities they serve. The Health Collaborative serves as the coordinator and facilitator of a regional CHNA across 26 counties of Southwest OH, Northern KY, and Southeastern IN, including the Greater Dayton region. When complete, the report that is created is used to develop an implementation and strategic action plan for addressing these identified health needs. We are actively collecting data for the CHNA and would love to help in survey distribution and outreach through your networks.

april 1, 2021 - Report on findings of a vaccine hesitancy project presented by victor ronis-tobin, phd

On March 17th, Victor Ronis-Tobin, PhD, Director, Xavier Center for Population Health, together with partners from Closing the Health Gap, presented a webinar to report the findings of their multi-method regional study of COVID-19 Vaccine resistance. The presentation focused on demographic disparities in attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination. They reported results from a community survey, focus groups, and interviews with members of marginalized communities in our area.

Facilitator: Megan Lamkin, PhD, facilitates a “Water Cooler” discussion regarding her Pledge to Dismantle White Supremacy Within Ourselves and Our Institutions. The pledge was inspired by Layla F. Saad’s book, Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World and Become a Good Ancestor and developed with input from a diverse network of friends and colleagues. It serves as a pathway for faculty and staff to begin exploring their complicity in accommodating systemic racism at UC and begin taking action to dismantle it.
